For about twenty years I produce a pot of ancient conception, and now not anymore produced in Sardinia. It's called Pratu de cassa (the hunting dish), and is composed of two parts which fit one another closing themselves tightly. The hunting dish was used to stew the meat (but is also suitable for fish and vegetables). Its characteristic is that it doesn't disperse vapors while cooking, enhancing taste and flavor. It also reduces the cooking times and can be used as a serving dish. It is very similar to the Portuguese Cataplana. Besides being present in the memory of many older people in Sardinia, it appears in a publication of 1570, printed in Venice by Scappi, which referred to the gastronomy of the period and the related tools (Venice - Marciana Library).
